The score for When Autumn Leaves will be composed by the dynamic Jongnic “JB” Bontemps, a classically trained composer with roots in the church and hip-hop as well as in the world of modern jazz. This Brooklyn, New York native studied music at Yale, The Berklee School of Music and achieved a Masters in Music (Screen Scoring) at the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music.
JB was selected as a Sundance Lab Composer Fellow in 2013 and then, as a Time Warner Artist Fellow in 2014. He has consistently delivered emotion, empathy and musical edge to over 50 film, television and video game projects. His scoring efforts include independent film works that have screened across the globe at The Cannes Film Festival, The Warsaw Festival, The Pan-African Film Festival and The American Black Film Festival. Bontemps’ multifaceted output can also be experienced variously on network television projects ranging from HBO and BET to The Disney Channel.
Additionally, JB regularly works alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest film composers on larger-scale studio features. Alan Silvestri (A Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb), Alexandre Desplat (The Imitation Game, The Secret Life of Pets), Christophe Beck (Guilt Trip), and Marco Beltrami (Carrie) are just a few of the film scoring luminaries that have helped to develop and refine JB’s deep and remarkable gifts.
JB’s latest score is for director Steven Caple Jr.’s feature, ‘The Land’. This film had the honor of debuting at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. JB’s contribution included complex and sensitive scoring as well as a powerful original collaboration with popular recording artists Erykah Badu and Nas.
